An Overview, A Blessing, A Podcast

We did decide to sit out the day due to the combination of the riding conditions on US101 and weather. We are kind of bummed to take a day off this early on but confident we made the right choice. It’s a marathon and not a dash to the finish line. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

Kim and I spent our day moving to a different room, one of two that wasn’t rented for tonight, hitting the small but well stocked grocery store in town and reorganizing our plan and our gear.

The Manzanita Market was super organized and quaint.  We stocked up on food we could cook on the electric pan or in the microwave like eggs, hotdogs, lettuce, bread, cheese and sandwich meat for tomorrow.

Next, we tackled our gear. We emptied every bag with the goal of getting rid of the contents to fit the big red rack pack. Funny how an extra pair of underwear, socks, shirt, caps and a battery pack can add up. We put our spare belongings in a box we got from the grocery store and weighed in at the local post office, that is closed over the lunch hour we found out. We shipped 18lbs of stuff back home on day 2. There are a couple pounds of gear we can send home once we get through the mountains, but I think we are set to carry what we have for the duration. Eyeballing it I figure Kim’s gear is about 35-40lbs and mine around 40-45lbs, but we were able to shift the load lower and center.

We’re still working on where we’ll stay every night through the Memorial weekend holiday. Destination unknown for tomorrow.

Kim and I were so excited to have our parents, brothers and sisters, children and grandchildren with us this past Sunday at the Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Chanhassen for a blessing and send-off. Our church has been conservative during Covid and following the guidelines and this was the first time we’ve been at church in person since the pandemic started. What a great feeling it was to be back with our church community and friends and get their blessings before leaving. Here is a link to the roughly the ten minutes of the blessing and sendoff at FOC.

A Podcast was released today that we recorded a couple weeks ago with Justin and Janell from The Transformation Club. Kim helped Janell start their yoga program back in 2016 and we are members. I think they have a fresh and unique view of combining and coaching mental and physical wellness or mind and body. I’ve believed since I was a young boy that “Life is what you think it is.” Meaning life is more about a state of mind and that state of mind is your reality. For your listening pleasure here is the Motch Across America Episode.
