It was a pretty low-key day at the West Fork Camp & RV.

Kim and I were woken up at 7am by the cattle drive on the other side of the West Fork Creek with the mooing of the beeves. We decided we needed to investigate and walked over to small bridge crossing the Creek and could see the herd being driven from the east by 8 cowboys and about 10 herding dogs. We talked to Chance, the owner of our camp, when the coffee shop opened up at 8am. He said that once a year they move the herd to grazing pasture for the summer and move them back in the fall. Pretty cool we got to see it.

I stayed neared the coffee and did my blog for the prior day, while Colton got breakfast going. We had fried eggs, potatoes and little sizzlers. After breakfast we sat around and chatted with Maggie and got reorganized for the day.

About 12:30pm Maggie hit the road back to Bozeman and Colton, Kim and I went down the road about 18 miles to the Happy Hour Bar on the shores of Lake Hebgen and sat on the deck. It was very windy, but sunny. We ordered a beverage and an appetizer. They have this interesting habit of blowing this boat air horn at times. Maybe it’s to shock you out and the mesmerizing view.

Colton introduced us to Mark, who he works with at the club. We also started chatting with the family next to us from Boston. They were headed to a dude ranch a few miles down the road. After we got back to camp, we all took a little snooze, then got our stuff together so we’d be ready to roll out in the morning.  We found time for an ice cream treat from the small store on premises.

Colton whipped up an amazing, mix it all together, dinner of everything we had leftover. Some of the long-term folks in camp invited us over to their nightly circle-up after dinner. We walked over and met and chatted with some of the group and went back to our camp. I pumped up our bike tires with the pump JD, one of the fellow campers, borrowed to us, and returned it.

It will be an early night as we get back to the groove on the road. Tomorrow is Yellowstone and should be quite an adventure maneuvering through the traffic and no shoulder, let alone the potential wild animals. At this point we are planning on camping one night in the park and move through the following day via the south entrance. Cell and internet access will be sketchy for a few days, so not sure when we’ll get the next post up.

  1. It’s Bob from Florida (Lolo on the motorcycles). We are staying 3 miles south of West Fork on the dirt road at a friends cabin. Leaving in the morning (29th) for Yellowstone and out the South Gate. We’ll watch for you.

    1. Hey Bob! Hope you and Tommy had a great time in Great Fall at the rally. We enjoyed meeting you guys. We got through Yellowstone yesterday and headed south. Riding a bicycle through Yellowstone was tougher on the mind than the body. With the constant cars and no shoulder we had to concentrate. Hope to catch you guys along the route! Be safe and play well!!

  2. Good luck! Yellowstone should be a highlight! Take lots of pictures. Can’t wait to hear about it.
